{Style Search} Sunnies for All Seasons

As winter gets into gear we are constantly thinking of what sunglasses we can wear when.  While sometimes the snow makes me want to trade my sunnies for a pair of safety goggles, there are companies that make those super durable sunglasses that are perfect for the winter.  Christmas or rather the Holiday season is upon us which means we are out there shopping.  And if you are anywhere near NYC, you know the wind whips through anything and everything.

Tom Ford makes these scratch and impact resistant sunglasses for men:

I would love to see any guy wear these to impress the parents for Christmas this year.  They make a statement while also allowing you to possibly hide behind them so you can make that first impression a great one.  Also these are perfect to throw one before heading out the game with the boys.  Football season is well under way and who doesn’t want to wear stunner shades while watching the game from those awesome seats you stood in line (via internet) forever to get.

For that post-New-Year’s-glow, you can try these from Gargoyle:

Gargoyles ANSI Classic Black

I love these! The Gargoyle’s ANSI Classic looks a little Terminator-esque but the wrap-shield style will definitely be a great friend to fight off that “wine-flu”.  The nose pads are super comfortable and are pretty much bullet proof.  This makes them perfect to fight off that super-powered wind and possibly the icy snow that could be flying your way.  These might be a good alternative to wearing those bulky ski goggles when walking from the lodge to your cabin over this vacation season.

And of course who can forget basketball season:

Jack does it best with his shades at the game.  Getting ready for the NBA opening? And iI love Jack in his Persols.  The detail on the side of the frame seals the deal and makes them perfect for watching that opening day shot! And you know what’s even better? The lenses are impact resistant crystal and are polarized just to ensure your safe drive to the stadium.

Sunglasses are for anytime of year. Plus with holiday/vacation season finally upon us, we can bust out those summer time sunglasses we’ve been dying to wear again! Happy vacationing!

Love this look! The sunglasses take the cake though. They once again prove that it is nearly impossible for gold metal aviators to go out of style.  I can’t remember a time when these were not worn.  From the airforce to those of us stomping in Airforce Ones, this frame still has dominated.
These from Tom Ford are a newer take on that classic style.

Who doesn’t love the contrasting detail on the arm of the frame.  I personally love this style, especially in this color! It is perfect for everyday wear and for that upcoming winter beach trip.
Good news for those who need reading glasses! Aviator style sunglasses come in readers! These from Able Vision are spectacular.

Able Vision makes the R14948 Bronze Sunreader which are perfect for reading in the bright sunlight. They are made from durable aspheric plastic which makes them perfect just to be thrown in a purse while you are on the go.

Reading glasses come in all sorts of shapes and sizes. My favorite frames are the two toned ones Meryl Streep wore in The Devil Wears Prada.  The plastic frames make them perfect for any face and the light color almost seems to fade into Ms. Streep’s complexion yet stand out bold with the black frame-arms.  She’s fabulous in any right.

For those of us who love to stand out a little more:

These Saint-German Tortoise+Green by Gabriel + Simone make a bold statement by combining the tortoise and a bright green that make reading glasses fashionable and chic.  Plus they’re super durable so they are perfect to throw in your purse before you walk out the door.

Hugh Jackman takes my breath away in those sexy readers.  His readers remind me of these:

The bold black frame creates definition on the face that enhances rather than distracts.  Unlike bold colors, black makes that perfect distinction between extravagant and perfectly styled.  Of course, I am partial to the black frames (see bottom picture of Simon Baker). Featured directly above are the Gabriel + Simone Reading Glasses - Saint-Germain Black.

Who doesn’t love Sarah Palin? Or rather Tina Fey as Sarah Palin.  Tina Fey is much better in my opinion.  I love her reading glasses.  They are the perfect shade of tortoise and the shape just fits her face.  There’s no contest as to her being one of the funniest women on television. I found some neat readers that are similar to hers:

These are the 718-Tortoise Flexi-Light from Calabria.  Flexi means they’re super flexible which also means they can get a little crushed in case you forget them in your bag…I’ve done that before. They’re also light so they won’t feel heavy on your face when you forget to take them off.

{Fashion Trend} The Minimalist

With every season comes new trends in fashion.  The minimalist idea stems from art with artworks such as Piet Mondrian and Bauhaus.

Above is Composition with Red, Blue, Black, Yellow, and Gray by Mondrian.  His use of bold color reflects the trends for sunglasses as well as the thick lines that clearly define glasses. Spy Optics uses the minimalist trend as the stepping stone for their design.  The Spy Optics Lennox style frame (featured below) creates the thick bold lines with the overly simplistic design.

For those looking for a bit more flare with this minimalist trend, you can try these!

Featured above is the Kate Spade Bri/S with the pink detail.  The chic black frame is accented by the small detail on the temple as well as the bold pink color on the inside of the frame.  Pink and black is usually chic and perfect for supporting breast cancer since that is always a hot topic.

Minimalism is perfect for the simple chic fashionista! Try out any bold, simple frame even in reading glasses!

RED! Love the color! It’s bold and strong.  Featured above is the Calabria Readers Reading Glasses 736 in red and white.  The two-color frame makes the perfect step in the minimalist trend.

Just to throw this amazing picture or rather gallery of pictures back out there…GLEE SEASON PREMIERING NEXT WEEK!! Everyone excited, yes? I know I am.  And as an avid Glee watcher and fan(atic), I love every single one of these characters on and off screen. The photos featured above are definitely of them off screen which is great!
I love how each character/actor has his or her own unique personality and this personality shines on the show.  They also express their personalities through the glasses they wear.  “Artie” aka Kevin McHale makes the more nerdy statement with his glasses but who doesn’t love the most adorable nerd who can sing! These from Eyesave.com are super cute plus the price is to die for!

These are also pretty similar to “Puck“‘s (Mark Salling) but in the tortoise and a little bit smaller frame.  I’ve never seen the nerdy side of Puckerman but to be honest…I can see what Zizes (Lauren Fink) sees in him. It’s the softer side that gets her and the fact that he’s pretty bad-ass.
Santana and Brittany are brilliant characters themselves, but it is Naya and Heather that deserve the credit for making them come alive.  Heather’s character, Brittany, comes off as an airhead but her style is dead on.  Above (second row, third picture) she rocks those oversized shades similar to that of Naya (first row, middle picture).  They remind me of these:

I love these oversized frames from Roberto Cavalli. These specifically, if we want to get technical by name, are the RC 466S Calcedonio.  I love the logo detail on the side of the frame. They just make them standout from the crowd! And who doesn’t like to stand out?
Darren Criss (above, first row, third picture) loves to standout, obviously in his bright, neon pink shades.  His wayfarers, specifically in this shade of pink, have definitely become an icon in terms of his off-screen life. From his StarKid productions, his version of Harry Potter (which if you haven’t seen you need to!), to his great character of Blaine on Glee. Who doesn’t love Blaine? Kurt definitely does :)
Don’t forget to watch Glee next week! And check out all the cool glasses, reading glasses and sunglasses at Eyesave!

{Style Search} Unique You!

So we’ve all heard the phrase, “be yourself,” but I bet you probably didn’t know that it applies to glasses as well.  With literally thousands of style icons out there, you can look anywhere from a magazine to the internet for inspiration.  Hopefully your search landed you here! Best place in my opinion anyway.

Readers can come in all sorts of sizes, shapes, and tints.  It is all up to you to decide which way you want to go! I love this picture from the NYTimes article (article link at the bottom of page):

Her round, two-toned frames make the perfect addition to her beauty.  They don’t take away from her natural beauty; they accent it! Plus I find with a larger frame it is easier to see out of.  There’s not any looking around the frame and feeling blind when it’s a little blurry.  I recently bought a new pair of glasses that are a larger rectangular pair.  I’m not so sure I would be able to pull of the large “coke-bottle”-like glasses featured here, but I love them on her and would suggest them to anyone!

These (below) are a more classic style of sunglasses.  The Club Master by Ray-Ban is perfect for summer or just anytime you want to look stylish while remaining utilitarian.  They feature a wire bottom part of the frame with a plastic upper part.  The top plastic part can come in lots of different designs which makes it similar to the Wayfarer in terms of its versatility of color or pattern choice.

Personally, I love these: Ray-Ban RB 3016

The pattern on the inside is perfect because it is almost hidden.  I love the subtle patterns on sunglasses paired with a bold black.  It makes a statement!

Now, this guy is making a definite statement! I would say that he is living life on the idiom: “go bold or go home.”  Fine by me! I love them! I love these from NVU Eyewear for readers: NVU Eyewear Reading Glasses Stillwell 2-Tone Black & Brown

These seem to be just a little bit more subtle than the man featured above.  I love the bold look, but for more everyday wear I would suggest the pair featured above. They just seem more practical.
