New A. Kurtz styles!

You may have first heard of A. Kurtz for their signature camouflage hats and bags and accessories. They make really cool camouflage army hats but with some flair and you don’t have to feel guilty for not having actually been in the army and still wearing an army type hat. Lindsay Lohan - I can’t seem to stop talking about Lindsay Lohan - is wearing one of these hats in this photo…

I don’t think she is in the army or ever has been and look how fashionably army she is in this photo! If you know that she was in the army and I’m wrong, then please excuse me, I just have this sneaking suspicion she was not in the army, although she’d make a good tank driver, given her recent dump truck fiasco. I was going to link to her site but lindsaylohan.com is not a site - you could have lindsaylohan.com if you want.

Ed Norton is wearing an A. Kurtz hat here…

That one’s not camouflage but the style is army. I don’t think he’s been in the army either, or even an army movie for that matter. Are you starting to get my point? You don’t have to be in the army to enjoy an army fashion.

A. Kurtz sunglasses are the latest addition to the A. Kurtz line and while not army-style per se they’re really cool and different- you can’t find some of the A. Kurtz styles in any other brand. Here are the guys from the band, MGMT, wearing A. Kurtz styles (right pic is the Maurice style)…

Here is Jennifer Connelly on a beach wearing the A. Kurtz “Pilot” style…

What we like about the A. Kurtz line is they straddle classic and current, hip and old school, vacation and practical. You could wear the “Sidney” to a club…

…or you could wear them on a boat - this is a boat…

Maybe if you do wear them on a boat you can find a more glamorous boat than this one. I think if you’re on this boat you have bigger things to worry about than what type of sunglasses you’re wearing. Once you start wearing the “Sidney” you start making new friends who have nicer boats, like this one…

And some of the A. Kurtz give you a really affordable price on a classic version of a more expensive model. For instance the Ray Ban RB3267 is $101.99 on Eyesave (Retail $129.00)…

But the A. Kurtz “Private” is $69.99…

Like a new band, A. Kurtz sunglasses let you get in on something before the rest of the world catches up. You can say you wore them first. People will be saying “I just got a pair of A. Kurtz - they’re awesome” and you can say “I was wearing A. Kurtz, like years ago, ever since I was on the beach with Jennifer Connelly.” “Oh, I didn’t know you knew Jennifer Connelly, you never told me.” “There are a lot of things you don’t know about me.” And then you can improvise from there.

Rock of Ages

Tom Cruise’s new movie, Rock of Ages, is an adaptation of the 2006 rock jukebox Broadway musical of the same name. In it Tom Cruise plays an Axl Rose (Guns n Roses) glam rock lead singer type. We’ve heard he’s very good in it - I mean, shouldn’t be too much of a stretch - he and Axl Rose are basically the same guy. Below is Cruise as Stacee Jaxx, the lead singer of a group named Arsenal…

Tom, or Stacee really - let’s honor the character - is wearing a navigator style frame. Check out the Anarchy “Signal” style for a similar frame:

You too can be Tom Cruise or Axl Rose, shirt off, chest bared, tattooed, girls on your shoulder, screaming at the top of your lungs, partying back at the hotel, limos, VIP rooms - all of that comes with the Anarchy Signal style…..in time. You have to wear em in first and then slowly the shirt will find its way off and your muscles will start expanding. It’s a process.

Here’s Axl Rose in his heyday - compare and contrast:

Tom’s head is tilted stage left, Axl’s is tilted stage right. See, an ac-tor makes it his own. “I’m gonna tilt my head left because I noticed a lot of the rock stars tilt their heads right and I don’t want to copy.” “Excellent idea, Tom!” - the director, Adam Shankman, who you might recognize as a judge on Dancing With the Stars….

Also in Rock of Ages are Alec Baldwin and Russell Brand, both in Aviators below…

Kinda refreshing to see Alec Baldwin with long hair, looking like a roadie. Russell Brand is looking dangerously close to Weird Al Yankovic here - compare and contrast:

Am I crazy - look again…

Anyway, the important thing to remember is that all of these people are either wearing navigators or aviators, two extremely versatile styles, and two styles that can be worn as sunglasses or as prescription frames. They look cool either way. It used to be that only nerdish types wore aviators as prescription frames, but then then the ’80s became big in the ’00s and then all the cool kids were wearing aviator and navigator frames as prescription frames again. Who better to exemplify this trend than Dov Charney, American Apparel founder…

See, we weren’t lying to you. Hip, rock, old, new, hollywood, bollywood, whatever your poison, some things never go out of style.

Fore! It’s golf time - yeah!

The U.S. Open golf tournament has begun and the world is freaking out! Ok, well maybe not freaking out but for golf enthusiasts this is an important time. And for sunglass lovers it’s a great time too because you’re out in the sun.

A brand with a great golf lens is Bolle. They make a lens called “Eaglevision 2” which is a brown lens that enhances vision on the golf course. The Bolle Vigilante (below) is the perfect style for the golf course because it “highlights shades of green:”

“Shades of Green” happens to also be a United States Department of Defense-owned resort located in the city of Bay Lake, Florida, near Walt Disney World…

We think the Bolle Eaglevision 2 Dark lenses will help at the resort too. Let’s just say it’ll help bring out shades of green WHEREVER. Looks like the resort works too - look how relaxed these marines are…

What were we talking about? Oh yeah - Bolle! Here are a couple of celebs in Bolles, granted not the golf ones, but who cares - it’s always fun to see who’s wearing what:

Matthew McConaughey (<— that’s all I can think of to say about him at the moment).

Can’t seem to stop talking about Lindsay Lohan…

She wears the Bolle Prince which is technically for kids ages 7-10 yrs (insert joke about needing to grow up). I guess she has a 7 yr old’s head - maybe that’s what’s been causing her so much trouble!

Lohan behold.

Poor Lindsay Lohan cannot seem to stay out of trouble. The latest is she has totaled her Porsche on the Pacific Coast Highway by rear-ending a dump truck, which are fairly large. Not under the influence, not running from a crime scene but apparently running right into one.

Oddly, ‘not even supposed to be driving. She was on her way to the set of Lifetime’s Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton biopic “Liz & Dick” which is another comeback for the young starlet (see: right pic, on the set). So we thought we’d show a few of her sunglass moments because if nothing else she really looks good in sunglasses, and showcases a wide range of styles!

Below a fresh-faced Lindsay, hopeful in a cool and classic pair of Chanels.

Here’s a less hopeful-looking Lindsay in a pair of Ray Ban RB3025 aviators:

These are the Tom Ford “Margaux” sunglasses, which are unfortunately discontinued but practically identical to the Tom Ford “Emmeline:” (which are not discontinued) - she looks great here, something’s making her happy, possibly probation or just the face of getting through the paparazzi:

Here’s the original Elizabeth Taylor in a pair of cat-eyes:

Lately everyone seems to be talking about the Gucci 3510 cat-eyes - people keep asking us for them and black of course is the classic most desired:

And lastly, barely recognizable to any of the other Lindsays - here’s her Debbie Harry meets Madonna meets any random lower east side rock groupie from 1982 meets bra-less 7-11 high school dropout “will you get me and my friends some beer?” look:

Unfortunately we don’t know what brand of sunglasses that is but the D&G 3062 is pretty close:

We wish Lindsay the best - she’s got great style and she always gives us something to talk about - isn’t that what we want from our stars? We don’t want them quiet and prim - we want their cars smashed up (granted, with no injuries), loud parties, extreme behavior, we want them to do everything we don’t because if they don’t, who will?

Interview with aclockworkpink!

aclockworkpinkOur blogger, Nicole, interviewed aclockworkpink (right) - check out her blog, she’s awesome. Here is the interview:

N: What is your favorite style of sunglasses and why?

ACWP: My favorite style of sunglasses this Spring are the cat eye sunglasses. I also really like wayfarers! Also, any glasses with flowers on them are really cool!

N: Where does your inspiration come from, in terms of your designs?

ACWP: My inspiration definitely comes from the seasons trends. I watch all the runway shows for each season, and anything that catches my eye, or inspires me, definitely comes into play with my designs. That’s why I started making things. I really liked certain things that my favorite designers would present on the runway, and I could never afford them, so I started making replica’s for myself, and my friends. For this Spring, I took a lot of inspiration from Versace and Gucci’s ocean-themed designs, and Dolce & Gabbana’s floral glasses.

N: If you could meet any designer, who would it be?

ACWP: If I could meet any designer, I would definitely want to meet Alexander McQueen. Even though he passed away, he is the designer that made me really interested in the fashion world, and I think he’s one of those designers that only comes along once in a generation. I also really like Vivienne Westwood!

N: How would you describe your style?

ACWP: I never know what to answer when i’m asked this question. I really don’t know how to describe myself haha. My Mom always tells me i’m creepy, and that I dress like Esmeralda from Disney’s Hunchback of Notre Dame, mixed with a mermaid haha. I don’t know how accurate that is! :)

N: What do you have in store for the future?Collections, designs, future plans, etc.

ACWP: Right now, i’m working on a really elaborate skirt, new boots, and pearl headpieces, similiar to the ones Karl Lagerfeld used in the Chanel Pre-Fall 2012 show. I also want to start doing something with dreamcatchers, because I have hundreds of them. I don’t know what, yet…..

N: Do you think that you would branch into clothing as a designer?

ACWP: I’d say, that is my dream, and what I would eventually LOVE to do. It’s obviously not an easy task to do. Clothes, and acessories are very different, but i’ve made jackets for myself before, and my Mom and I made a jacket, and boots for Tyler Glenn, the singer of Neon Trees, which he’s worn on stage. So, that was very cool!

N: What are your sunglasses trends for the summer?

ACWP: This Summer, i’m going to be focusing on different versions of the floral sunglasses, because there are so many things, and different variations, you can do. I also want to make cat eye sunglasses, with multi-colored gems on them. I really like to make things that I can actually use. I have a faux leather jacket that I never wear, so I sewed flowers, pearls, and crystals on the shoulders on the jacket, and now it’s become new again. I really love it!

Father’s Day has arrived!

Most people don’t know (and neither did we until we looked it up on wikipedia) that Father’s Day was actually started by a woman - Sonora Dodd - to commemorate William Jackson Smarther father, a civil war veteran (see: right) who reared his six children as a single dad. You might say he was the original Mr. Mom, though I doubt many friends of his called him that in his day.

In the 1930s Sonora Dodd really went into full gear to raise awareness for her holiday and gained additional support from the Associated Men’s Wear Retailers, who assisted in promotion. But Americans didn’t favor this alliance, feeling that the holiday was simply becoming a way for business to exploit consumers. What a ridiculous idea (RIGHT NOW WE HAVE FREE STANDARD SHIPPING ON ALL ORDERS OVER $75!!!).

The holiday moved through the hands of Congress without ever becoming official until Lyndon B. Johnson designated the third Sunday in June as a national day to honor fathers. And then Richard Nixon officially declared it Father’s Day six years later. But most of us don’t remember that part of Nixon’s career. Moving on…

Men, especially fathers, love the aviator because it reminds them of the law, and men love the law. Cops, pilots, secret service men - they all favor the aviator. And the most classic aviator out there is the Ray Ban RB3025 model:

Many designery brands, like Tom Ford, Gucci, Carrera, all make excellent top notch aviator styles. One that comes to mind in particular is the Michael Kors MKS147M-BRECKENRIDGE-015:

See, still an aviator but slightly modernized. And still classic. We’d be remiss though if we didn’t mention Serengeti because Serengeti has the “drivers” lens. Fathers love to drive. We all know the archetypal father who refuses to ask or accept directions from a stranger despite being completely lost and in the middle of nowhere. The Serengeti “Firenze” will hide a man’s shame and provide precision optical clarity when on the road:

The Maui Jim “Peahi” HT202-2M is an excellent wrap style that hides the fear of not knowing where you are as well as severely cutting down the glare from the sun with its supreme polarized lenses:

These are just a few suggestions to get started for this Father’s Day. We’re sure he’ll love whatever you get him! Go dads!

I never knew that Will Ferrell loved to wear women’s sunglasses… I must say though that they are quite nice on him. But they probably look better on a woman. I know most people like oversized glasses but…I am not quite sure that these are the best for Will. Nice try Will, but please stick to men’s please!!

It better be a good read for me to get lost in.

I love getting lost in my books. But sometimes I find that the words get all blurry from reading too much! Does this happen to anyone else? Maybe I should look into getting readers…And good thing too because I can get #ROTM!! Sweet!

Vacations, vacations, vacations

So I don’t know about yall but I am definitely down for vacation. I am currently on a sort of vacation right now. In case you couldn’t tell, I am not from NYC originally, in fact I live across the river. Don’t knock it quite yet. As a commuter into the city (which some of you are, don’t deny it, I see you on the PATH train there), I am always on the look out for interesting sunglasses to share. Most of the time, I see the classic Ray Bans and aviator styles. Just to let you know there are other styles out there, so don’t be shy. Let the summer vacation be the place to show your stuff! Check these out!

Cat-Eye for Women:

Personally, I’ve grown to love the cat-eye style that Tom Ford presented last year. Well, let the trend continue!

Tom Ford Nikita

These are the frames I was talking about from Tom Ford. I love these, but they are from last year.

Yves St. Laurent

These are more like it! Yves Saint Laurent has the classic style of cat-eye with a little twist. The cheetah print on the plastic as well as the gold arms of the sunglasses make the perfect combination!

For the Boys: Squarish Frames

Gucci

This pair from Gucci is super chic, for the boys. I love the thicker side arms and the boldness they create. If you can find a pair with a bright color on the inside, it would make the sunglasses much more bold! And you’d stand out from all the other boring guys in black shades. Plus, you can let your aviators rest for a bit before putting them back on for work.

Remember that vacations are your friend! Take a vacation! You definitely deserve one, plus you can try out your new sunglasses. Like a test drive, but for your sunglasses.

P.S.

Take a picture in your awesome shades and share with me! I just might make a post all about you!
